What I need to rent a car?
To rent a car in Autocunha Car Rental, you need to have a driving license issued and authorized by the respective regulatory authority of your country. If it is outside the European Union, Brazil, the United States or PALOP’s (African Countries of Portuguese Official Language) you must present an International Driving License. Other requirements are driving license at least 2 years of experience.
Can I change my vehicle after I have made the reservation?
Yes. To do this, you should contact us by email or by the telephone number of the respective agency in order we can make the change for you.
Do the vehicles have insurance?
Yes, all our vehicles have insurance included, however the deductibles (excess insurance) are different according to the additional insurance subscription. If you choose BASIC insurance, the customer is responsible for the total damage caused to the vehicle, while GOLD insurance the customer will be charged up to a maximum of 150 € in case of accident or complete loss of the vehicle.
How do franchises work?
The deductible is a maximum amount for which the customer is responsible in case of an accident. We always advise you to sign up for additional insurances if you wish to reduce this liability in the event of an accident or theft of the vehicle. The amount of the deductible is blocked on a valid credit card [driver’s card] and is usually unlocked within 5-10 days after its return. This franchise is a value that is not moved from our customers’ account, staying only in captive value.
Where can I get the car and how do I return it?
Autocunha Car Rental has at your disposal several spaces where the pick-up and drop-off of the vehicles can be done. Usually Autocunha delivers in most of the hotels and airports of the respective cities where we are without additional costs. My flight is delayed and I have not had the opportunity to warn you. And now?
Autocunha Car Rental is equipped with mobile devices that constantly inform us about the state of the flights of its customers. We will be waiting for you when you arrive at the airport, even late.
How can I pay for my reservation?
Autocunha has several modes of payment available to its customers on the pick-up day. You can pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), debit or cash.
Bank checks will not be accepted.
What do I do if I have an accident?
If you have an accident, you should immediately call the national emergency number – 112, calling the police to take care of the incident as well as a medical vehicle, if necessary. You should then inform our booking agents. All our vehicles are provided with an amicable declaration that must be completed by the respective drivers and signed at the end.
What is the price of Travel Assistance?
In the event of an accident where the customer has purchased an additional insurance, travel assistance will not be charged, however in case of Basic Insurance, the same will be charged at 25 € / hour. In the event of loss of keys or other negligent acts (eg battery discharged due to forgetting of connected lights), it will be charged at least € 75 + costs for moving and tolling. Prices incl.
What is not covered by insurance?
The franchise amounts locked in credit card are used for the repair and recovery of the car in cases of accident and theft respectively. However, it is especially important to remember that the following damages are not covered even if you have acquired any additional insurance:
- Trash under the car (chassis)
- Torn tires or rims destroyed by misuse of the car
- Interior of the car (eg burnt upholstery)
- Misuse of the vehicle (eg use on sporting events)
- Very serious infractions to the code of the road or driving under the influence of alcohol and / or narcotics.

I do not have a credit card. Can I rent a car?
The use of credit card is of paramount importance, convenience and safety for the customer and the car rental companies. However, Car Rental AutoCunha knows that there are customers who do not use this method of payment, and for these customers we have solutions so that you can rent a car, without worry and with total security. When do you unblock my credit card?
The deductibles are normally released between 5-10 business days. An email will be sent to inform you.
What is the cancellation policy?
In case you need to cancel your reservation, Autocunha Car Rental will not charge any amount for periods longer than 48 hours between the cancellation request and the pick-up time. For situations in which the 48 hours are not fulfilled, the value of 3 days of rental will be due.
Wich are the differences between EXCESS and DEPOSIT?
You can prove at the end of the process of booking the vehicle, that there is the term of EXCESS and DEPOSIT and both are different. The “Excess” is the amount blocked for cases where there is collision damage on the rental car (interior, mechanical parts and tires are not included). The amount of “Deposit” presented, is the final amount to be held by Autocunha, which corresponds to a fuel guarantee + the amount of the excess/deductible. The values will be returned at the end of the rental if there are no damages.
